We’d been looking forward to arriving in Hong Kong for a while, partly because of the Western luxuries there and partly because of the great Cantonese food they serve. Hong Kong island’s skyline is an incredible sight to welcome you to the city though a view of the harbour was no where to be seen in our backpacker hostel. We had ideas of splurging for a 5 star hotel but as soon as we realised costs were roughly three times more expensive than mainland China we quickly revised our plans.
Cars drive on the left here and the road signs and street names are all British creations. We stopped for an outstanding afternoon tea in the Four Seasons hotel and as we sat in the chilly air-conditioned room with torrential rain falling outside it almost felt like being back home.
After a trip up to Victoria Peak to look down on the skyscrapers we explored all over the city taking trams and the famous Star Ferry back across the harbour into Kowloon. We spent our last night in an Australian bar watching a Filipino Jazz band while we figured out how many weeks of Pot Noodles we’d need to get our budget back on track.

The cream tea looks fantastic, we are drooling at the
sight of it. (It’s a pity Mark has had to sacrifice
his razor blade money to pay for it!) The meats hanging
in the butchers look less appealing, reckon we’ve seen
some of those in A & E on Casualty. At least you know
what you’re eating with a Pot Noodle???

Hong Kong is a brilliant place, isn’t it. Glad you went to the Ned Kelly Bar, are you sure it was a Phillipino Jazz ban,the guy who owns it comes from Wallsend, so after a couple of amber nectars you might have confused the language with Geordie!!

WOW!….I agree with Pauline & Tom the cream tea looks scrummie!…did you get real milk with it? You were lucky to have such a clear day when you went up the Peak, the views are wonderful. We went to those markets, I didn’t like the bird one, I wanted to open all the cages & let them out!

No, John no-one can confuse any language with the “Geordie” accent - anyway I was telling Pat’s Mum you were in Hong Kong and saw Kowloon Harbour so she was telling me all about her stay in Kowloon - in the army barracks - when she and her family were there for about 3 years (her dad was an officer in the army) when she was about 5-7 years old !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Guys! We’re sitting here very jealous of your exciting travels, I’m particularly interested in eyeball soup! (I’m sure that’s a scene from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom - Calimar Shutiday!) The view from the world’s highest bar looked incredible (Anna is correcting my grammar as I go so this is taking ages!!!) Really hope you are enjoying yourselves and look forward to hearing how you’re getting on. Loads of Love
James and Anna x
